The Asia grand View Hotel – all the beauty of Coron without the noise and hassle of being in the town center. Is it as good as it sounds? Is staying here value for money? Is it convenient? There were things we loved and also things we hated about the Asia Grand View Hotel… Read on to find out more…
Our Arrival in Coron
After a few delays at the airport and a seemingly endless wait for our bags, we finally found our courtesy van and were on our way to the hotel. The Asia Grand View Hotel is 30 minutes from the Busuanga Airport (depending on traffic and the weather) so we finally arrived close to 4pm. We were promptly greeted by warm and friendly staff and check-in was straight forward and painless. While checking in, they gave us their signature lemongrass water which was very nice. Once we had our room keys we were off to relax. I must say the Bellboys did a great job carrying our luggage down a flight of stairs and a long steep-stepped path…. Our bags were not light either. Well done guys!
Near reception is the little library where you will find displayed their Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence awardee’s which composite of two focal themes: Asian culture and stunning views of Coron Bay. Asian ornaments also grace the walls and corners, while in other areas tropical plants fringe corridors and roofs.
Just after finishing our refreshing welcome drinks, we followed the Bellboys to our room. Be aware if you are elderly, handicapped, or out of shape – there are a lot of stairs/hills throughout the resort, with every room requiring a bit of a walk to get to and from (On out second day, Gary and I used the shortcut going back and forth to our room).
Right from the moment we entered the Asia Grand View Hotel we both loved the relaxed feel and ambiance of the area.
When we stepped into our room we felt relax and at ease. The main room was sparsely furnished but comfortable. The decor is starting to look somewhat old but still acceptable. The bed was large (King size) and comfortable, the TV reception was good and the air conditioning worked (we are off to a good start…).
The first thing I noticed is their high ceiling interior, wooden flooring and king sized bed. But… it is lacking a dinning table if you ever want to order room service. The restaurant wasn’t that far from our room but a few times after a long day touring, we just didn’t feel like walking up there.
Where ever we go, we always try to check everything. Unfortunately, after hearing a noise, I opened the window to find a new hotel being constructed next to us. Not only does the new building significantly reducing the Asia Grand View Hotels “grand view” (I see a potential name change in the future, haha! ), but the construction noise it is very annoying if you’re wanting to get any rest during the day (LOL).
The construction crew shows up bright and early, and buzz saws typically begin whirring by 7 am, until 7 pm or so. The hotel management should’ve inform us about it when booking, its not too loud but would have been nice to know.

The bathroom at the Asia Grand View Hotel was bright, clean and spacious. The shower area also has a pull-out line to dry your clothes on if required (yes, we used it a lot). The only issue we had was the gas hot water system for our room went out on two separate days. Waking up to cold water in the shower and then having to wait for maintenance to restart the flame again was time consuming. Of course we could have toughened up and braved a cold shower (or none at a… phew).
The Water Problem
They don’t have a free bottled of water. But even worse… for all you coffee drinkers… NO electric kettle!!! Luckily, Gary kept his bottled water from our Skyjet flight but still… we love our coffee. You guessed it, I called reception and promptly complained about it and was informed that we can get a thermos flask of hot and cold water sent to our room if requested.. After 30 minutes, we received a kettle of cold and hot water. They informed us that we should put our kettle in the balcony before 3pm because they collect and give us a new one.
Be Warned – WiFi
I was very disappointed of their WiFi, or complete lack thereof. Their WIFI is in their reception area. I don’t think it’s fair for the hotel to advertise itself as having WiFi, as I literally was only able to connect to it twice. Many times, my phone didn’t have signal at all – even using mobile data is pretty hard to connect in the internet. Front desk on check-in do provide two pass codes for both the room wifi and reception wifi and warn that this is Coron so don’t expect too much. One night around 8pm, I ended up walking down the street to get the signal and internet. As others have mentioned, the wifi isn’t great. But that’s Coron!
The breakfast buffet was good and some selections did change each day to give variety. The view from the dining area veranda is amazing and a great way to start the day. We also had dinner here a few times and everything we had was well cooked and reasonably priced. I did find the dinner menu limited and so ate the same dish a few times. This isn’t a real complaint as we both enjoyed the food and the service.
The Pool Area
The pool is nicely maintained and clean. We found it great to go for an evening swim before dinner. It is easy to just relax and spend a lot of time in this area.. But, unfortunately we had much to do and little time to do it in.
The staff were friendly and helpful and tended to our concerns the best they could. One night a local tour guide we had used tried to double charge us for a tour by charging our hotel. Lucky we kept our tour receipt so were able to prove we had already paid. The hotel took copies and helped us sort it all out.
The room and grounds were kept clean and tidy. The rooms are not 5 star luxury but they are comfortable and nice to come back to after a long day island hopping.
Wifi is virtually non-existent and you may need to ask for hot and cold water to be delivered so if these things are important to you than this would definitely be a big negative… For us it was manageable.
You will need to catch a tricycle if you need to get into town (about a 10 minute ride and it only costs 10p).
Would we return?.. Yes we would
