Destination spas aren’t a common thing in the Philippines. It is so easy to get a massage at home, it is just a text message away or a short drive to the mall. Qiwellness Spa and Bathhouse or Qiwellness Living, being only a short 90-minute drive from Makati, might change the way you think.
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay as we had not heard a lot about it previously. Being a Chinese Tea & Bath House, QiWellness Spa offers a unique experience with arguably one of the best overlooking views of Taal Volcano. It is so easy to sit back and enjoy a soothing Qireflexology session while taking in the spectacular views of Lake Taal and the surrounding countryside.
A Few Negatives Before Arriving At QiWellness Spa
I must admit, there were a few negatives before even checking in… The place can be a little hard to find (Well it was for us). The signpost is positioned in such a manner that is difficult to read and, YES.. I missed it the first time and ended driving an extra 20 minutes (my fault). The building, from street, doesn’t look like a Spa Resort at all : It looks more like a concrete bunker. But everything changes once you walk through their doors… You enter into another world.
The first impact upon entering its red entrance doors is the surreal view: Taal Lake and Volcano in all their breath-taking glory. The ambiance is very peaceful, perfect for those seeking a very private, relaxing or romantic time.
The Guest House…
The room was clean and tidy as was the bath and toilet. There was not any cable TV when we were there but there were plenty of other things to do and a reasonable good selection of movies in the room. The only negative I had about the room was the lack of a reading light by the bed. I would have liked to read a good book at night while Gary was watching UFC on TV. Perhaps if they installed a reading lamp, everything would’ve been perfect (LOL)
Now, please note, this is not a hotel, it is a guest house. Don’t expect all the usual hotel amenities, the guest house is meant to make you feel at home and is only offered with the overnight escape package. QiWellness Living only allow 2 to 3 rooms to be occupied at the same time, to prevent the Spa from feeling “crowded” and creating a more serene and private experience.
The rooms are ample and spacious and the beds are soft and comfortable. As stated above, the TV comes pre-loaded movies but we did notice there was no refrigerator (not that we really needed one).
Another point to mention is at night, you only have 1 guard and 1 housekeeper on duty. Something really great for couples celebrating or for those wanting an intimate and secluded place.
QiWellness Living Overnight “Escape” Package Inclusions:

The Tea Room…
As the afternoon closed around us we moved to the al fresco area for a light cocktails as we watched the sun go down. We then moved to the dining hall for the degustacion dinner.
Please note : The menu, which changes according to the season, must be ordered 48 hours in advance. This is not a problem when you book the guest room or a package deal in advance but it can cause problems if you just show up expecting to be able to order.
We had booked the overnight Escape package so we had the opportunity of dining there. The food was excellent! An 8 course ‘yin yang degustation menu with every dish prepared & served perfectly!
Breakfast was congee and it was particularly satisfying. If it is a special night with a certain special someone you can ask for the romantic candlelight dinner setup. Beautiful views, cool breeze, delicious food and unforgettable company.
Note: If you are thinking of bringing children here.. Think again. This is not a very child friendly location.
The Yin-Yang hot & cold pool are found on the lowest level of the Spa for added privacy. Imagine taking a dip in the heated pool surrounded by the crispness of Tagaytay’s cool climate… Relaxing, taking in the scenery and enjoying the company of that special someone in your life.
After your dip you might like a soothing massage. They have several choices of massage, some of which are done in the massage rooms while the reflexology is done by the yin-yang pool overlooking the Taal volcano and lake. Because it’s outdoors, The scenery, the coolness of the air and the sound of the koi pond behind, it is quite easy for you to dose off for a while during the massage.
There are two private rooms you can reserve for a couple’s massage after. These rooms come with sauna, shower, and toilet. We loved the 30-minute foot reflexology massage using the Ingham method.
Afterwards, you choose between a 90 minute massage of:
Qiharmony – A 90 minute dry signature massage, done fully clothed, applies acupressure, reflexology, and tui-na techniques on your head, shoulders, hands, arms, feet, legs, and back. This massage is done in the “opium den” or by the yin yang pool.
Silk – A deeply relaxing signature massage using their ‘silk’ massage balm. There is no oily feeling after the massage, just well-moisturized skin. This massage is done in a private room by the pond.
A Few Negatives
- No wifi. We were informed that it’s only for office use.
- Smoking is allowed, I was 10 feet away and I can smell the smoke. It may be in the outdoor restaurant but still this is a wellness center.
- Hard to find. Not signposted clearly enough.
Other than that I have nothing else negative to say. The staff were always smiling, very polite and are always more than willing to assist. Overall, a highly recommended place for those special milestone celebrations with your special someone or for a simple spa date with your friends.
TIP: It’s best to go at around 3pm and start your massage at 4pm to catch the beautiful Tagaytay sunset.
