When we started planning this article we realized what might be tech travel essentials to us might not be essential to you. So we decided to survey friends, family, social media, bloggers and anyone who would talk to us to find out what stuff they couldn’t imagine travelling without. Once we had this list we were able to pull together a dream team of products in each category.
Below is the resulting list of Ultimate Tech Travel Essentials
1 – Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones
No noise. No wires. Just your music and you.
The QC 35s are by far the best noise-cancelling headphones we have tried. There’s no noise to get in the way of your music, and no wires to get in your way at all. Easily connect your devices with Bluetooth or NFC pairing Perfect for those long trips by car, bus, train or plane.
I love this model because it is wireless, but it also comes with a cord so you can keep listening when the Bluetooth battery dies. They provide balanced audio performance no matter how noisy your commute is, and clear calls even on a bustling, windy street. With 20 hours of wireless battery life, you can listen all day; and the fit is light and comfortable enough for it, too. And for easy management of your devices, use the free Bose Connect app.
2- Ultimate Ears Wonderboom
I love music and want to have it with me where ever I go. Unfortunately, I love the beach, waterfalls and.. well… anything to do with water.
That’s where the Wonderboom comes in… totally waterproof. Magic! And don’t worry, it’s much tougher than it looks: I have dropped mine a few times but it still hasn’t missed a beat. Super lightweight so it is good to clip to your bike or take mountaineering.
The battery life can last for up to 10 hours on a single charge, so you can listen for longer. If you’ve run out of charge? Plug it in and 2.8 hours later you’re ready to go again
3 – Flight 001 4-in-1
Have you ever arrived at your hotel and realized your cellphone or camera was low bat.. go to plug in your adaptor and find out you don’t have the correct country adaptor in your kit (Arrrrgggghh)?
I have been there.. done that… And that is why this made it to our list of tech travel essentials..
This 4 plugs, one modular adapter has plugs for 150 countries in one bright, compact package. It’s colour-coded, so you can check compatibility with a glance at Flight 001’s companion map.
This adapter is adorable. Not only is it pack friendly, but super easy to use. The only drawback is, the little cardboard packaging has the instructions for each country zone and I seem to have misplaced it.
4 – Fancii Cool Mist Personal Mini Humidifier
I hate getting dry lips and flaky skin when I travel to other countries with dry climates. Then a friend told me how she avoids it… She uses a humidifier… of course!
This model is small, cordless, and ideal for a hotel room — just supply a water bottle and a few AA batteries. This unit is powered by 3 AA batteries that can last up to 18 hours (depending on the battery). It can also be plugged into a USB source, such as laptop, power banks, or wall adapter with the included cable.
Its compact size and wireless design allow you to take it wherever you go. It can easily fit in purses, backpacks, and suitcases.
I use a regular water bottle and add a couple of drops of scented oil. I have hard water from the faucet and do have to run my fingernail over the metal mister to clear it once in a while. It runs every night for 8 hours and shuts itself off. I unplug it each morning as per instructions.
5 – Skyroam
Why would you need this?
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pokemon Go, Clash Of Clans, Candy Crush or anything else you do online… You can’t rely on free wifi you get in malls to be reliable. Skyroam’s personal WiFi hotspot provides fast, secure, cost-effective mobile internet around the world – all without a SIM! Keep your favourite gadgets connected wherever you travel without the burden of SIM changing, equipment rentals, counting MB data or unlocking phones.
Once you own this pay-as-you-go hotspot device, pressing start will activate a 24-hour pass for up to five devices to access unlimited data. Don’t miss out of a thing while you travel.
6 – Tile Sports
Clip or stick this Bluetooth tracker your key chain, your wallet, camera, bags or anything else you might misplace and never worry about losing them again. A friend of mine also attached one to her son’s jeans… Or was it her husbands… Ring it, find it: It’s even louder than ever, making it easy to find when it’s nearby…
The battery is guaranteed to last for a year, and it’s compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Waterproof and durable, Tile Sport stands up to the element
7 – Flux Charger Plus
It may be slimmer than your cellphone but it comes packed with power. With 10,000 mAh of charging power, built-in micro-USB and lightning connectors, this portable battery has plenty of power to keep multiple gadgets going strong all day long.
This has gotten me out many bad situations when trekking. It comes with a highly durable and lightweight aluminium casing that protects it from drops and makes it less prone to become dirty.
Flux tip: if you get a USB-A to USB-C cable (sold separately) you can also make the Flux Charger Plus a killer USB-C portable charger for laptops or other USB-C type phones.
